Mirror Worlds 2011

Newsletter

14 December 2009

Welcome to the third newsletter for the 2011 Mirror Worlds.  It is approaching the 12 month count down to the 2011 Mirror Worlds and alot is happening.

Princess Royal Sailing Club is about to get a makeover which will enable us to cater with the influx of competitors and visitors and ensure a great event.  The Club is finalising its funding partnerships and hopes to commence the works program in the new year.

The Organising Committee has been hard at work firming up transport and additional accommodation options and these will be posted to the website in the new year.

Princess Royal Sailing Club will be training its volunteers in partnership with ISAF Perth 2011 and Yachting Western Australia. This training program will provide our volunteers with relevant training and accreditation for the 2011 Mirror Worlds and give volunteers a chance to be eligible to become part of the team as a volunteer for the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. With an anticipated 5,000 visitors, including 1,500 sailors, from 80 nations set to arrive in Western Australia, Perth 2011 will be four times larger than the 2012 London Olympic Games sailing regatta!

Also remember you can support the South African Team to bring out some wonderful youth sailors from the Izivunguvungu Sailing School.  The School, which supports disadvantaged youth, has lost its major sponsor and fund raising has been established by the Mirror fraternity to help get these kids to Albany. If you can assist or know someone who may wish to provide financial assistance, visit this site.

Did you know that Tovar Mirsky who finished runner up in the World Match Racing Tour is month started out sailing in Mirrors in Perth.

We spoke to Torvar who said, "Mirrors, for me were the building blocks of my sailing career. I learnt to sail in Mirrors! I think it is important to sail a good youth dinghy class while you are growing up. Mirrors are a great boat to learn all the "ropes". The racing is always close and the forthcoming world championships in Albany are going to produce some champion sailors."

Check out Torvar's sailing achievements here.

Finally, have a safe and prosperous Christmas and New Year and we look forward to seeking you in Albany in 2011.
